Collaboration, Spontaneity and Trust for Creativity and Well-Being

Creativity is a key trait for a new businesses success. A collaborative space free of judgement or failure can make an ideal environment for people to improve self-esteem, confidence, and innovation.

Improvisation, or ‘improv’, is a form of creativity in which plot, characters and dialogue of a scene or story are made up in the moment. It generates a mindset to breakdown barriers.

“Improv has a place in the world of mediation. Moments from this training will help our mediators to cope with the unexpected as well as enhancing our ability to develop rapport with clients.”
Chief Exec, Mediation Hertfordshire.

What is improv?

Improvisation, or ‘improv’, is a form of live theatre in which the plot, characters and dialogue of a game, scene or story are made up in the moment. There are no lines to rehearse and the improv process is highly creative. No acting skills are required.

Studies have shown that the skills from improvisation can help with better management of unexpected changes, uncertainty and increased team collaboration. This better enables our ability to absorb new ideas.

What happens at an improv session?

First we run some warm up exercises, gently introducing improv principles in each round. The Improv principles we practice include: deep listening, supporting others, allowing spontaneity and accepting mistakes.

After this, we run some improv games, such as ‘freeze tag’, ‘party quirks’ and ‘gibberish’. As well as taking an active part, participants will get the opportunity to observe (be the audience), provide encouragement and give feedback.

In these games, we will incorporate real-life opportunities/issues to allows them to flourish and be observed in a different setting.

Our Improv experts are practitioners who run regular improv classes as well as having extensive business experience.

At the end of each game, there is a short feedback session on what was learned and how this creates development opportunities back at the workplace.

  • There will be no Powerpoint presentations or note taking!
  • Improv sessions are well-structured with principles that provide a strong foundation for creativity.
  • Playfulness is gently encouraged at all times and no acting or comedy skills are required.
  • Our experience shows that creativity and spontaneity are possible for all.
